Shoreline Clean Up – Fall 2021
November 6 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm PDTFree
Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeeper (LPOW) is partnering with the City of Sandpoint to host a fall Shoreline Clean Up event on November 6th, 2021 from 10 AM – 1 PM. Join us as we pick up trash and litter along the Sand Creek and City Beach shorelines before it gets washed into our watershed!
Not only is litter and micro-trash unsightly, it also has the real potential to negatively impact the quality of our local waterways. This is a great opportunity to come together as a community to help clean up our beach areas and the shorelines after the busy summer season. By this time, the lake will have dropped down enough for us to reach trash that may have fallen into the water and disappeared beneath the surface. Before our town becomes covered in snow, help us protect our lake by picking up trash and litter along our popular shorelines. Also, who knows what treasures you may pick up!
BEWARE: The lake bed will be VERY muddy at this time and will not hesitate to steal your shoes. Please wear mud boots and try to stay out of the mud if possible. On a similar note, please dress appropriately for the weather! This is north Idaho after all – so dress warmly and be prepared for the cold!
We have planned this clean up for the weekend after Halloween due to the amount of plastic and mini-candy wrappers that traditionally accompany spooky-season festivities. If you want to re-wear your Halloween costume or bring along your candy bucket as a temporary trash canister, there may or may not be a prize for best dressed
All community members are welcome to participate – LPOW and the City will provide free gloves and bags. Interested participants can show up at any time between 10 AM – 1 PM at the City Beach pavilion in Sandpoint. We will make sure to have local coffee, warm drinks, and treats available to keep you going throughout the event!
Let us know if you have any questions about the event by emailing us or giving us a call at (208) 597-7188.
