Charles has been an Idaho resident for over 30 years. Many of those years were spent in the Palouse region in Latah county. He earned his PhD in plant physiology at Washington State University (WSU) and worked for WSU and the University of Idaho as a researcher, teacher and science communicator. He also served as Board Member and President of the Palouse Land Trust.

He has explored Lake Pend Oreille’s shoreline with his canoes since moving to the Sandpoint area. He also observed a strong community of individuals and organizations dedicated to preserving the Lake’s natural character. These experiences led him to connect with Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeeper become an LPOW Board Member.
